A Proud Town – Royal Wootton Bassett

110629_Wootton_Bassett_War_MemorialI am sure that all our UK based readers, and many of our overseas readers, will have been moved at the warmth and respect shown by the town, and people,of Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire.

For the past decade, this small town has became famous for informal tributes during military repatriation processions; the funeral processions pass through the town from nearby RAF Lyneham, and such tributes have made national news here in the UK and touched the heart of many people.

The good news is that the people of Wootton Bassett have been honoured and the town will be soon be known as ‘Royal’ Wootton Bassett – I only hope that the granted royal patronage is in place before the closure of RAF Lyneham as the town will no longer be able to pay its respect to our war dead.
